Apparently, winter is the new summer.

It’s been a wacky season for weather, with unusual heat hitting weekend after weekend and little rain coming down. Not that I’m complaining, of course.

Today at the beach it looked more like July than February, with crowds hitting the beach to cool off, enjoy the sun, and just simply hang out.

I visited three beaches to get some slice of life photos showing people enjoying the day.  Early Saturday morning, surfers headed down to San Onofre to score some of the fun waves still lingering around, and the sun was out early. Mid-afternoon I stopped by Seal Beach to check out a little surf contest happening on the north side of the pier, and Huntington Beach was by far the busiest, with sunbathers dotting the sand.

The run of nice weather should continue through Sunday, and if you do plan on hitting the coast, here’s some stuff you’ll need to know.

- The Surf City Marathon is going down in Huntington Beach, and that means big street closures along Pacific Coast Highway. It will be madness trying to drive through, or find a place to park. You’ll definitely want to see this graphic on the route and street closures.

- The Katin Seal Beach Championships are happening in Seal Beach. It’s a fun event, free to watch, and full of family fun. It’s on the north side of the pier, parking is $3 for 2 hours or $6 all day in the lots. It’s a great excuse to get to the beach!

- If you do go in the water, there’s still a bit of swell out there. So if you aren’t familiar with the ocean, beware of rip currents and always ask a lifeguard about any dangers in the area.
